Does anyone here mow lawns/ do other activities/jobs that require good ear protection? What's the best? Bonus points for low key options, hard to see or notice if you're looking at the person wearing them.

Just pick up a bag of disposable ear plugs at your local hardware store.

Other than ordinary foam-squeeze earplugs, I can't say I have any real recommendations. I personally like to use full cup/ear cover style if I'm somewhere noisy, but they don't play well with my glasses or safety gear and are the opposite of invisible. For practical use/easy-in, easy-out, I like the banded kind, but I haven't had a set in a while:

They are the easiest to pop out to hear what someone's saying, are pretty comfortable, and are easy to set in your ears - particularly if your hands are dirty and you don't want to filth your ear canals rolling the foam ones.

Honeywell Thunder T3s Earmuffs. With 30 decibels of noise reduction you won't hear a goddamn thing.

Best are going to an audiologist and having them custom mold you something then wearing over-ears over that. That's what I did when I worked industrial. There's also DIY custom molds, but I've never tried them.

Now, I just buy a box of el-cheapo foam plugs.

Foamies, or some high quality molded ones. For maximum protection, I use my old David Clark headset from when I was crewing jets.

I use these for shooting. Comfortable and easy to pop off to put and hang around your neck.

You can get these with a little string attaching them like earbuds. I like those the best but any hearing protection is better than none for sure.

I don't like the stringed ones - always a pain and they get caught on things.

Hopefully my car won't be as loud as an F-16.

I think I'm just going to get muffs, even if I will look silly in traffic.

To each, our own! I reuse the ones with the string more than the ones w/o. I always drop the ones w/o a string and then don't want to put them dirty back in.

I can sympathize on how loud those Beetles can be. I found this article on sound deadening specifically for Bugs. http://1967beetle.com/sound-deadenin…
